Hekla Pumice
-natural and clean
Hekla pumice is used with great success as a growing substrate for greenhouse crops. Because of its amazing physical properties and almost total absence of organic materials, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers and various types of flowers are cultivated in pure Hekla pumice.
-a pure growing substrate
Containers such as plastic buckets, plastic bags or other types of reservoirs are filled with pumice.
The water easily drains through holes which are made near the bottom of the container.
The water in the pumice drains at a very moderate pace, so the moisture, nutrient and air content in the pumice is easily controlled.
The Hekla pumice is a small world of bubbles. It has a unique mixture of open
and closed pores which give the pumice the special quality of being able to hold
a large supply of both water and air. This is important for the plant roots' uptaking of nutrition and oxygen.
-in potting soil
Hekla pumice is used as an additive in potting soil. The pumice helps to balance the water level in the soil around the plant roots. Because air is trapped in the pumice pores, plant roots have access to a healthy supply of oxygen.
